Classic Lily of the Valley

Early yesterday evening the light was so beautiful, the sun was lightly covered by clouds creating an amazing natural soft box. The kind of light macro photographers get giddy about. The fragrance wafted throughout the yard as there was a slight breeze. Both the light and fragrance made it impossible to resist creating classic lily of the valley images.

Spring Flowers or Weeds?

I was able to spend a short time over the weekend photographing some spring flowers in my backyard. Some may say they are weeds, the violets and dandelions. The lily of the valley is quite invasive, but they are so tiny and fragrant. Do you see the dandelions and violets as spring flowers or weeds?

Some of the lily of the valley in my backyard are from the house I lived in the first eight years of my life. My mom had planted them probably before I was born. I have written about this story before in my post Lily Of The Valley.

Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) technique has really taken off in the photography world. A technique I have done many times over the last 10+ years. First learning this technique at a workshop in Acadia National Park. With many spring flowers blooming in my yard, I made time to pick up my camera and go outside to see what images I could make. The violets are blooming profusely, as well as the dandelions. The lily of the valley are just starting to bloom, but when walking out the back door to the patio, the aroma is intoxicating. It will only last a brief time and I need to inhale that fragrance as much as possible!

Here are few of the images I made over the weekend. Go outside and smell the spring flowers or weeds!
