A saguaro cactus standing tall along the Lost Dog Trail in the McDowell Mountain Sonoran Preserve. One of my images from New Year’s Day of the desert. The cloud covered sky was gray and dull, converting this image to monochrome gave it more life. In the distance you can just see one of the peaks of the McDowell Mountains with snow. My image can also be seen in the Monochrome Madness gallery on Leanne Cole PHOTOGRAPHY blog. As my blog title says, different isn’t wrong, it’s just different, this image of the desert in monochrome is different for me as I usually shoot vibrant colors and macro.

Well we are going to Spring training in Scotsdale and then staying in Phoenix for awhile and doing some side trips like maybe Tonto Forest and perhaps Sedona. I’d love some ideas in Phoenix/Scotsdale area. That would really be great Tamara. Thank you!

Black and white is a great decision for desert shots as they are usually pretty monochromatic anyway.
It depends on the time of year, day, etc as to the desert looking monochromatic. On this day the sky was overcast and very gray, which is quite unusual for the Sonoran Desert.
